The Chillicothe Hornets soccer team entered their road clash against Cameron with a 2-9 record and looking to get their first win in a month. On Cameron’s Pink Out both teams came out with solid energy as the match was fairly even through the first 35 minutes. That is when Hornets midfielder Magnus Maier played a ball through the defense looking for Isaac Bailey. The Dragons goalkeeper stumbled as he went to clear the ball, opening a clear path for Bailey to put the chance away for the opening goal of the game. Less than 2 minutes later the ball was bouncing around inside Cameron’s penalty box when Coy Jones managed to get the decisive touch on the ball, scrambling it across the goal line for another Hornets score. Chillicothe wasn’t done in the first half, with less than 90 seconds before the break, Maier dribbled down the left sideline and lofted a beautiful ball across the face of goal, over the Dragons keeper and waiting on the back post was Bailey who nodded it into the net for his 2nd goal. In the span of 5 minutes Chillicothe scored a trio of goals to go into halftime up 3-0.
In the 2nd half the Hornets were able to keep Cameron at bay for the most part. It wasn’t until just seven minutes remaining when Brayden Henry found Parker Jackson open on the right side of the box, off the right foot of Jackson the ball found the netting at the back post as Cameron got on the score board. The intensity elevated in the final 6 minutes including a yellow card for Chillicothe’s Jones in the final seconds, but the Hornets prevented Cameron from coming any closer. Chillicothe’s keeper Jesse Hughes finished with 3 saves in the crucial 3-1 win.
