Chillicothe Cross Country With 2 Top 10 State Runners

Chillicothe Cross Country was competing in the State Meet on the usually fast Gans Creek Course in Columbia. After raining pretty heavily all morning, the course was in poor shape, as  it was mostly mud, especially the curves, which became so muddy MSHSAA officials were acting as cones to funnel runners around mud.

The Chillicothe Boys came away 7th in Class 3 as a team, exceeding the expectations of the rankings, and two runners came home with state medals and All-State honors!

Medalists:
Cain Evans – 7th – 16:46 (just 25 seconds from his fastest ever, in mud, picking up his 3rd state XC medal in his 4th appearance)
Luke Thompson – 9th – 16:48 (Picking up his 3rd state XC medal in his 3rd appearance)
Alton Keller (58th), Zeph O’Berry (115th), & Brody Norris (123rd) finished out the Hornets top 5 scorers for a 7th place finish in team standings.

Yoo Jung Lee (114th) ran her 4th State Meet, the second one in the pouring rain.

Landyn Peterson (133rd) & Trace Akers (148th) also competed well despite the conditions, with Landyn running his fastest race ever. He ran a 14 second PR on a course that was far less than ideal for PRs.

Coach Jennifer Dickson was please with her teams performance all around adding, “Alternates Ben Cady, Alexander England, and Keagan Menconi were outstanding teammates and all got to experience their first ever state meet!

Manager and previous Hornet runner, Carter Shipers also attended his final state meet, sadly. Carter was the best manager I could ever wish for and went above and beyond his managerial duties for his teammates. I truly believe a team functions at its best with all of its members selfishly working together in unison, no matter their position or role, for the good of the team. This team does that and it’s something I’m always thankful and proud of them for!”
