For the second year, the price of the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner has dropped. American Farm Bureau’s annual look at the cost of the typical Thanksgiving feast in the Midwest shows a drop of about 5% over 2023. The average cost for dinner for 10 is $58.08. That includes turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings.
Despite reduced inventories caused by the avian flu, turkey prices declined 6%, bringing the cost of a 16-pound bird to $25.67.
Other prices also declined in the last year. These include a gallon of whole milk dropped 14%, and 3 pounds of sweet potatoes down 26%.
There were price increases as well. Dinner rolls and cubed stuffing each increased about 8% from 2023, but fresh cranberries saw the largest spike in price at nearly 12%.
