The Chillicothe Lady Hornets won the Savannah Tournament last season and made a strong statement to begin their bid to defend the title. Chillicothe needed one quarter to find their rhythm against Raytown South, as the Lady Hornets held just a one possession advantage going into the 2nd quarter at 11-8.
The Lady Hornets dominated on the glass outscoring the Cardinals 15-0 in 2nd chance points in the first half to open up a 32-16 lead at the break. Standout senior Liz Oliver dominated the game on both sides, recording a double double in the first half and finishing with 15 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Coach Darren Smith’s team extended their lead to 47-23 with one quarter to play and coasted to a 58-36 victory. The Lady Hornets balanced scoring was on display with all five starters scoring at least 8 points.
Chillicothe now 2-0 on the season, will play Maryville Tuesday night at 5:30. A win would advance the Lady Hornets to the Savannah Tournament championship game on Friday night.
