The deadline for paying personal property and real estate taxes in Missouri is Midnight on December 31st. Payments made after that date are considered delinquent and are subject to penalty.
Livingston County Collector / Treasurer Diana Havens says some will wait until the last minute to pay their taxes, and she reminds them that late is late. To avoid late penalties, she offers some advice.
Havens says if you plan to mail your payment through the post office, the postmark will determine if the payment was made on time.
Walk it into the post office to get the postmark.
Havens says some will make that payment on the computer.
Pay before midnight to be on time.
Take into account your internet connection in determining how long you can wait to make the online payment.
Finally, Havens says that even on the 31st, you can use the drop box at the courthouse.
The box will be checked and emptied shortly after midnight on the 31st.
The best way to avoid late penalties is to make that payment well ahead of the deadline.
