Alvin John Hoppe, age 88, a resident of Tina, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Life Care Center of Carrollton, Carrollton, Missouri.

 

Alvin was born the son of John and Marjorie (Maasdam) Hoppe on September 7, 1936, in Fairmount, Minnesota.  He moved to Tina in 1945 and started at Tina Elementary School in the third grade and graduated from Tina-Avalon High School in 1954.

 

Alvin started working at Barnes-Baker Motors in 1956 as a mechanic and was drafted into the United States Army in 1959, where he served as a truck mechanic in the Army Combat Engineers Unit.  He was discharged in 1962 and returned to work at Barnes-Baker Motors, where he retired in 2001 after 45 years.  He enlisted in the Missouri National Guard in 1963 and was discharged in 1965. He enjoyed raising and training horses, hunting, fishing, buck skinning reenactment, black powder shooting, photography and watching T-A Sports.  His wish for all students is to work hard in school, go to college and finish your education.

 

Survivors include his cousins, Mariam Hoppe of St. James, Minnesota, Robert Maasdam and wife, Mary, of Tina, Missouri, Donna Ramsey and husband, Charlie, of Carrollton, Missouri, David Maasdam and wife, Nancy, Tina, Missouri, and Susan Rucker and husband, Marty, of Tina, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Audrey Irene Hoppe; several aunts and uncles; and cousins, Freeman Hoppe, Virginia and David Looft, and Carl Maasdam.

 

Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, one hour prior to service time at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Rock Branch Cemetery, Tina, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Branch Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
