What began as an investigation of reckless driving in south Chillicothe Saturday afternoon, ended with a driver that may have shot himself and an accident near Breckenridge.
Chillicothe Police received the reckless driving complaint Saturday at about 4:45 pm. The complaint included the caller nearly struck by the vehicle and a school bus and another vehicle also nearly struck in the 1000 block of South Washington.
Officers were initially unable to locate the vehicle, but when they did locate it and attempted a stop, the driver took off and made his way to westbound US 36. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department was called and continued the chase near the Grand River Bridge. The vehicle continued into Caldwell County where the driver struck the rear of another vehicle at Panther Road near Breckenridge, ending the pursuit. Both vehicle had overturned as a result of the accident.
The driver, 45 year old Andy Strahm of St. Joseph had serious injuries and the driver and passenger in the other vehicle, 61 year olds Mark and Mary Carr of Cameron, had minor injuries. All three were treated at Cameron Regional Hospital. Strahm was later transferred to Liberty Hospital
State Troopers continued the investigation and Strahm was arrested for alleged DWI – aggravated offender, Unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest by fleeing, careless and imprudent driving, driving without a license and no insurance.
Chillicothe Police report they are investigating weather Strahm had shot himself at some point.
