Lady Hornets Soccer Shuts Out Benton

A wonderfully brisk evening at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium on Monday night was the backdrop for The Lady Hornets to take on the Benton Cardinals in a MEC conference matchup.

Both teams would battle the northern winds when kickoff took place.  Benton would have the wind at their backs to start and it helped to keep the ball towards the Hornet half of the field.  The stingy defense of the Lady Hornets would keep the South Side squad from getting any quality touches near goal. As the half wore on the Lady Hornets would continue to develop pressure and finally in the 28th minute Hayden Hansen would net her first goal of the season on a 30 yard strike that went just under the crossbar. This gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead that remained thru the half.

In the 2nd stanza the Lady Hornets applied constant pressure on Benton. Hansen was not finished on the night and netted her 2nd goal in the 65th minute.   Allie West got on the board with an assist from Sophie Hurtgen in the 74th minute to put the Lady Hornets up 3-0.   With 3 minutes left Chillicothe got a corner kick taken by West who found Hansen on a crossing run to make the score 4-0 and give Hansen a hat trick on the night. The score held, giving the Lady Hornets their second shutout of the season.

The win gets the Lady Hornets to 2-4 overall (2-1 MEC) on the season.
