Another beautiful night in Chillicothe at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium where the Chillicothe Lady Hornets took on non-conference foe Mid-Buchanan. The Lady Dragons came into the contest ranked 10th in the Missouri Class 1 rankings.
The game began with a back and forth as both teams positioned themselves to try to mount attacks. Mid-Buchanan would have the better of play early as the Lady Hornet defense held strong and limited quality opportunities. Layla McKinnis worked the goal for the Lady Hornets and kept everything in front of her. The defense of Chillicothe consisting of Brynley Beemer, Anya Moore, Emerson Stefancik, Amyah McKinnis and Ashlynn Daugherty continued to stall any attack by the Lady Dragons. The Chillicothe attack managed a few efforts late in the first half to create some quality chances, but couldn’t put anything in the net. The halftime score was knotted at 0-0.
The second half was much like the first half, both squads making runs and attacking but not able to put anything between the pipes and the match was tied after regulation 0-0.
After a scoreless overtime, the match remained tied 0-0 and the teams headed to penalty kicks.
Each team gets 5 kicks from the spot and the best of 5 will win the shootout. The deadlock remained, still tied after the first 5 shooters for each team were completed. Each squad was able to make 3 of the 5 shots and the game was sent to sudden death penalty kicks. Which means, each team has a shooter, if both make, the game continues keep. If both miss, they play on as well. If one makes and one misses, the game is over. The Lady Dragons went first and Layla McKinnis made the save in goal. Anya Moore stepped up as the 6th shooter for Chillicothe and buried a shot in the right side of the net to win the match for the Lady Hornets 4-3 on penalties.
In the JV match the theme continued, but this time 1-1 was the final score. Charlee Hibner was able to lace a shot into the net off an assist by Denise Sanchez.
The Lady Hornets move to 4-6 on the season and take on Sacred Heart in Sedalia, MO on Saturday April 26th at 11:00 am.
