Stream KCHI Live 24/7!

The goal of local media is to be heard by as many LOCAL people as possible, but who else is listening?  This week, KCHI found that when conditions are right, our AM station can be heard across the world.  It’s called DX listening.

A 59-year-old radio and television journalist from Finland, Micha Makelainen was searching for signals on March 19th.  It was 3:03 am in Finland when he heard our broadcast.  That was March 18th at 8:03 pm in Chillicothe.

Micha is 4,344 miles away, but several factors helped our signal reach his radio.  These include the effects of the northern lights, a 3,000-foot-long antenna, and a passion to search out the signals.  He called it a combination of luck, experience, and effort.
