Missouri Department of Corrections Award of Valor

Six employees of the Missouri Department of Corrections have earned the Director’s Award of Valor; one of them is from Chillicothe.  The award is given to Missouri Department of Corrections team members for acting in a heroic or courageous manner, on or off duty. The recipients were honored at a ceremony in Jefferson City this week.

Carl “Jay” Howe, a Correction Officer at the Chillicothe Correctional Center was honored for actions taken on May 17th of last year, when Howe responded to a situation involving Chillicothe Police Officers struggling with an armed juvenile. Howe assisted the officers in restraining the subject, helping to control a dangerous, potentially life-threatening situation.
