The weather forecast has temperatures in the 90s and heat indexes around 100 for the weekend.
Chillicothe Animal Control Officer Leslie Patek reminds everyone that hot weather is just as hard on your pets as it is for you.
She says helpful step #1 is to get your dog a haircut.
She says outside dogs should have a tarp over their pen for shade, and a small swimming pool to stay cool.
Patek says give them cold water, but not in a small doggie bowl.
She says if you are gone for the day, have a neighbor check on your pet, or call Patek if your neighbor isn’t able to help.
