Area Drivers Safe over Holiday

While no one from the KCHI listening area died as a result of traffic, boating or drowning fatalities over the Independence Day Holiday period, other parts of the state were not as fortunate.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reports troopers worked 376 state wide crashes including 139 injuries and nine deaths. Troopers also made 160 DWI arrests and 110 drug arrests.
On the waterways there were 11 boat crashes including five injuries but no fatalities. 12 Boating while Intoxicated and 28 drug arrests were performed by troopers.
There were three drowning unrelated to boat accidents statewide over the holiday period from July 3rd at 6:00pm to July 7th at 11:59pm.
A DWI Saturation was held during the July 4th weekend in four counties in the Troop H area including Livingston and Grundy Counties.
In the four counties total, officers issued seven citations and 21 warnings, plus assisted three motorists and made one misdemeanor drug arrest.
Captain James McDonald of Troop H Headquarters in St Joseph stated troopers were out in force over the holiday period, and said their vigorous enforcement efforts along with increased visibility helped keep Missouri motorists safer while traveling through the area.
