The National Weather Service has Chillicothe and the surrounding area under a heat advisory this afternoon until 8:00 tonight (Monday 8/12/19). A head index of 103 to 111 degrees today is in the forecast.
The combination of high temperatures and high humidity might cause heat stress or heat stroke according to National Weather Service officials.
Precautions should be taken with the biggest groups at risk being the very young, elderly, those with out air conditioning and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says to reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shade or air conditioned environments.
If you are overcome by heat, move to a cool and shaded location. Officials remind you heat stroke is an emergency and call 911 if you ae feeling the effects of being over heated.
