Fire Destroys Storage Building – Fire Crew On Scene 7 Hours

A fire at 1401 Washington Street left a storage building a total loss Tuesday night.  Chillicothe firefighters responded to a fire just after 5:00 pm Tuesday. They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building used for storage by an internet sales company.  The fire department had the aerial truck and two pumpers on hand and took a defensive posture to fight the fire as the structure was deemed unsafe.

Several ambulances on the scene to care for the firefighters that were suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion during the firefight.  Four firefighters received IV’s on the scene and one was taken to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment for heat exhaustion.

Mutual aid was requested and received from Trenton Fire Department.  They provided a ladder truck at the station to stand-by and personnel on the fire scene to assist.

The fire crew was on the scene until midnight and at times, traffic on Washington Street was limited to a single lane in each direction.  The cause of the fire is unknown.
