In the summer, you as a property owner are responsible for maintaining your lawn to keep it well-trimmed. In the winter, when it snows, you are responsible for removing snow from the sidewalks that cross your property. In the City of Chillicothe, snow removal falls under Chillicothe City Ordinance 505.210.
That ordinance requires residents and businesses to clear their adjacent public sidewalks of snow and ice in a timely manner.
Providing clear, safe sidewalks for pedestrian routes ensures access to jobs, schools and services in our community. The snow removal ordinance also helps ensure safe access for pedestrians as soon as possible after a snow storm.
The City of Chillicothe has the responsibility for clearing snow on City-Owned Property and the City Administrator says they get to those as soon as possible. He says their first priority for snow removal is the clearing of the streets.
