Funding from the Livingston County Senior Tax Board allows Aging In Place Livingston County to make 20 Knox Boxes available for loan to those in need. The Knox Box is a secured box that contains a key to allow emergency services personnel to enter a home securely. The boxes hang securely on a bracket over the top of the door and emergency services personnel have the key to open them that gives then a key to open the door without damaging it.
In 2018, Aging In Place Livingston County applied for grant funding from the Livingston County Senior Tax Fund to purchase 10 of the boxes. All 10 were loaned out to area seniors that could not afford to purchase a box.
This year the Livingston County Senior Tax Fund board approved $3,740 to purchase an additional 20 Knox Boxes.
Seniors, 60 and older that are interested in applying for the loan of a Knox Box should contact the Livingston County Health Center at 646-0515. Boxes are also available for purchase for under $200 by contacting the Chillicothe Fire Department
