The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department report for the later part of January includes several incidents and investigations.
January 21 the LCSO investigated reported animal neglect at a location in Utica. Several puppies were outside in the cold without proper protection/care. The person was educated on the requirements of care for the animals.
January 21 officers from the LCSO and Missouri Probation and Parole attempted to serve a parole warrant on a man. The person answering the door said the man was in the home. A short time later a woman came to the door being very rude to the officers and lying about the fugitive being in the home. Officers found the man hiding in the house. Additional charges are sought for resisting arrest and against the woman for hindering prosecution.
Deputies completed a theft of firearm case from Utica from December. The victim reported the missing revolver and was uncertain how long it had been gone. Deputies had recovered the handgun in July of last year after arresting a fugitive who was carrying it at the time of the arrest. The person is already in prison. Investigation of original theft continues.
January 22 deputies began an investigation of distribution of a controlled substance – prescription medication. The prescription medication for an adult was found in the possession of another person. The report states the prescription was filled two days earlier and was half gone. The person also had a large sum of cash with the remaining medication.
January 26 LCSO completed an investigation of child abuse and sex offense allegedly committed by two adults. The incident report was submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.
January 28 deputies began an investigation of theft from a local business. They found the theft was from an employee and that person has admitted their action. A summons was issued to appear in Livingston County Associate Court.

January 13th, deputies made a traffic stop on US 36 after receiving complaint the driver may be impaired. Deputies arrested 31-year-old Matthew Shepherd of Columbia for alleged Driving While Suspended. He was processed and released.
January 27th Deputies extradited Jared A. VanHorn from Platte County Sheriff on a Court Order for alleged Civil Contempt.
January 28th deputies arrested 38-year-old Elsa Lorine Morris of Chillicothe on a Grundy County warrant for alleged Failure to Appear on an excessive speed citation. Morris posted the $135 bond and was released with a court date.
