A company in rural Carroll County expects to make 40,000 gallons of what is basically very strong vodka before the end of the week. The strong grain alcohol produced by the Show Me Ethonol will be used in the production of hand sanitizer that everyone is wanting to find in their local stores.
Hand sanitizer is essentially 80% alcohol, mixed with things like water, hydrogen peroxide, and glycerin. They also ad a chemical to cut the alcohol odor.
The alcohol from the Carroll County plant is being sent to locations in Columbia, Branson, and St. Louis.
