Drug Investigation Complete

An investigation involving drugs and a convicted felon was completed by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.  Sheriff Steve Cox says 24-year-old William Rex Long faces felony charges in the case that began on March 24, when deputies responded to a report fo a vehicle stuck in a cemetery.

Two people were in the truck, and one was “less than cooperative” with deputies.  The Linn County K-9 was called and the dog alerted to the odors of drugs in the vehicle.  A search resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, and other drug equipment.  When Long was arrested, he was also allegedly found in possession of “brass knuckles”.

Deputies also seized a bag that was locked with a combination lock and the suspect refused to cooperate.  A search warrant was obtained and lead to seizure of items in the bag, including a loaded handgun, methamphetamine, and drug equipment.

Long was officially charged and arraignment is set for June 2nd.

Additional charges of property damage to the cemetery are being reviewed.
