A Brookfield man was injured in a single-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Sullivan County. The Missouri Highway Patrol report, at about 7:50 am, 42-year-old William Shaffer of Brookfield was eastbound on Highway C, east of Milan, and ran off the left side of the roadway. His pick-up struck a fence and overturned, resulting in minor injuries. Shaffer was taken to Sullivan County Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a safety belt.
Shaffer was also arrested on several charges, including alleged unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, DWI with drugs and no seatbelt. After he was treated at the hospital, he was transported to Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail.
