The third inning was the key in a Kirksville softball win over Chillicothe 5-4 in Kirksville.
The Lady Hornets scored in the top of the third, but Kirksville answered with four in the bottom of the inning. Chillicothe scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh inning for 4 runs off nine hits with one error.
Kirksville scored an insurance run in the sixth inning for five runs off just six hits.
At the plate, Chillicothe had three singles from Mika Hibner and Kirsten Dunn, a double from Mollie Ellis, and a single each for Sophia Luetticke and Kinlei Boley.
Boley took the loss, allowing 5 runs off 6 hits with seven strike outs and no walks, giving up three earned runs.
