A Brookfield man escaped injury when the train he was operating struck a car on the railroad tracks.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Burlington Northern Train was operated at a private driveway 1 mile west of Shelbina by 52-year-old Mike Lane of Brookfield.
The report states a car driven by 46-year-old Donald Leftwich of Shelbina failed to yield to the oncoming train and was struck on the driver’s side. The car then traveled off the road.
The signal device at the railroad crossing was a stop sign, according to the Highway Patrol report.
