A report of a suicidal person in the 1200 block of West 3rd Street turned into a stand-off with the Chillicothe Police Department. Police were called Thursday at about 3:30 pm, and were told the person had a handgun and was in the home alone.
The department’s Crisis Negotiator spoke with the resident, trying to come to a peaceful resolution. During the time the person was talking with police they fired the handgun in the house, but no-one was injured.
The resident had agreed on a plan to surrender, but also told the CPD Negotiator he was going to start picking off Officers one by one. The man then unexpectedly exited the front door of the residence brandishing a handgun and cursed at Officers and went back inside.
After about an hour, the resident surrendered peacefully and was taken into protective custody. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and evaluation.
The case is under review for consideration of charges.
