Douglas Clarifies County’s Authority With CAFO’s

Whether a request for a Confined Animal Feeding Operation or CAFO comes from an area farmer or a corporation that wants to build in the area, the Livingston County Commission has limited authority in denying permits.  Livingston County Presiding Commissioner Ed Douglas wants to clarify what actions they can and can not take.

Douglas says to deny the permits if the CAFO meets the state requirements violates state law and leaves the county open to lawsuits.

Douglas says he understands the concerns of those who oppose the CAFO that has been proposed near the Poosey Conservation Area.
