The Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team made quick work of the opening round of the District Softball tournament. Chillicothe throttled St Joseph Benton 15-0 in three innings at Danner Park, the host site of the District Softball Tournament.
Chillicothe scored six runs in the bottom of the first, eight in the bottom of the second and one in the third to end the game thanks to the 15-run lead in three innings rule in softball.
Kinlei Boley was deadly once again in the circle, allowing just ten Benton batters at the plate, striking out three, allowing only one hit and no walks.
For Chillicothe at the plate, Bre Pithan and Hope Helton both had a triple and two singles, Sophia Luetticke and Kirsten Dunn both had a double and single, Halle Rucker with two singles, Mika Hibner with a double, Mollie Ellis, Kinlei Boley and Brooke Horton all had a single.
Thursday at 7pm Chillicothe faces Macon, which beat Chillicothe in the regular season. Macon beat Maryville 12-0 in the first round. In the upper half of the bracket, Kirksville at 16-2 had a first round bye and will face #4 Savannah which beat Cameron 7-0 and is 14-1. That game is Thursday at 5pm.
