Two area residents were added to the Livingston County 4H and FFA Fair Hall of Fame. The inductees are Shirley Tye and the late David Williams.
Shirley Tye belonged to the Sturges 4-H club and was involved in livestock, foods, and sewing projects. Tye was Missouri’s Style Review winner and represented Missouri at the National style Review in Chicago. After graduating from the University of Missouri she took a position as a Home Economist for the Livingston County Extension Service as her first job. She was a 4-H club leader and sewing leader for the 4-leaf Clover 4-H Club. She was also involved in the Livingston County Fair by running the food stand and helping with exhibits. Tye also started the pet show at the fair. She loved every minute of being involved with 4-H and says she still loves to go to the fair every year.
David Williams began serving on the 4-H and FFA Fair Board in 1983. For more than 20 years, Williams played an active part in raising funds to make sure Livingston County had successful livestock shows where the youth could participate. Also, while serving on the fair board he spent much of the county fair working and setting up mud runs, cleaning up from events such as demolition derbies, working with the carnival, assisting with evening patrol, trash duty, attending to any livestock/barn/pen issues and attending to the cash boxes from different stands and booths. Williams also volunteered to run livestock on Friday night after the sale to the Chillicothe Livestock Market for the Saturday sale along with writing checks to be picked up Saturday by the youth after clean-up. In addition, Williams supported the FFA Soils and Agronomy award and various other 4-H and FFA awards and activities.
