What began Tuesday morning with a residential burglary in Linn County ended with several agencies involved and two arrests in Caldwell County. At about 8:50 am, the Linn County Sheriff’s department was pursuing a vehicle on westbound US 36, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department was alerted. After the vehicle had eluded Linn County Deputies, it was learned the vehicle had struck a utility pole, overturned, and was on fire. The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived and law enforcement soon learned of a person who was a victim of an armed car-jacking that drove two suspects to a location in Wheeling. The victim and her vehicle were released.
Officers determined an adult in Wheeling, who was unaware of the situation, gave the suspects a ride to Chillicothe. The suspects were thought to be at a location in the 1100 block of Clay Street, but when officers were able to search, they were not at the location at the time.
An officer thought a suspect had entered a home on Monroe Street and when a search was made the suspect was not at that location, but within minutes, Chillicothe Police learned of a pick-up stolen a few blocks away.
Local officers, troopers, and deputies were sharing information to attempt to locate the suspects. At about Noon the officers learned the Highway Patrol had arrested the suspects at a convenience store in Hamilton.
A female had a felony warrant from Linn County and is reportedly pregnant. Sheriff Steve Cox says she had previously been reported to be very intoxicated on methamphetamine.
Linn County authorities will be seeking multiple charges for all crimes in Linn County. The Chillicothe Police are seeking charges on the stolen vehicle.
The investigation continues to determine if others were involved at any point and if other charges and arrests will take place.
