Replacing playground equipment and improving drainage at Simpson Park will be done with the assistance of Friends Of Chillicothe Parks, a non-profit that was organized two years ago to assist with maintaining, enhancing, and promoting Chillicothe parks. Lou Cowherd from Friends of Chillicothe Parks made a presentation at Monday’s Chillicothe City Council meeting, seeking approval to move forward with plans for the nearly half-million-dollar facility
The new playground will include the Rocket that is the centerpiece of the current playground.
City Administrator Darin Chappell says the playground equipment is just part of the project, as the current playground has drainage issues. He says to address this, the playground will be moved.
The cost of the playground is $438,000, with the City of Chillicothe providing $100,000 and Friends of the Chillicothe Parks providing the remainder of the funding through donations from individuals and foundations.
