It was a wild night of basketball in a Chillicothe doubleheader at Maryville.
The Girls varsity game started the night. Maryville scored the first seven points in the game. Chillicothe battled back to tie the game twice in the second quarter, but could never take the lead.
Things became interesting at halftime. As normal, both boys teams took the floor to warm up, but a Maryville player tried a dunk and ended up shattering the back board. The rim was intact, no glass shattered onto the floor, but the backboard was broke.
The girls game was moved to a practice gym down the hall, which had three rows of bleachers total.
Maryville went on to win 47-34, improved to 21-1 and won the MEC title.
Chillicothe, unofficially, was led by Jolie Bonderer with 14, Jessica Reeter with 10, Brooke Horton with six, Essie Hicks with four and playing time for Lucy Reeter, Ellie Barnett and Selby Miller.
Maryville girls had three players in double figures. Chillicothe falls to 16-7 and hosts Richmond Saturday at 1pm in District play.
Due to a shattered backboard, the Chillicothe at Maryville boys basketball game was moved to the Maryville Middle School, which had much more seating than the High School practice gym.
The Spoofhounds went on an early run, leading 22 to 6 after the first quarter and ended with a 63 to 46 win over Chillicothe.
After a two-week absence, Head Coach Tim Cool returned to the team.
Chillicothe struggled at times against a taller Maryville team, and trailed the entire game.
Chillicothe was led by Wyatt Brandsgaard with 11 points, Hayden Simmer with ten, Griff Bonderer and James Mathew with nine each, Mason Baxter with five, Eli Cross with two and playing time for Landon Winder, Quentin Cranmer, Jackson Trout and Alijah Hibner.
