Spring is a popular time to do some landscaping, including planting or transplanting a tree or shrub in your yard. The Missouri Department of Conservation offers some tips on finding the right tree for the right place.
MDC will host a virtual tree-planting workshop, March 11th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
When first considering planting a tree, know how big it will get. With that in mind, select your ideal spot, then – look up – are there any utility lines above that spot? If so, you may need to plant elsewhere. Look Down – ok, you may need some help, but are there buried utilities; phone, electric, cable tv, Internet, gas, water or sewer, that are beneath the ground. Call for a utility location.
The MDC will cover topics that include tree selection, location, and the planting of the tree. To attend the virtual program, register for the program by emailing Jon.Skinner@mdc.mo.gov. Make sure you indicate the e-mail is for the Tree Selection and Planting program. The link for the program will be e-mailed to the participant one day ahead of the event.
