The move of the AME Church building constructed more than 150 years ago will wait another week. Gingrich, the company moving the building, cited the need for the ground to dry as the cause of the delay. The building will need to be moved across a few areas of open ground, and the rain the past couple of weeks has softened the soil enough to cause some concern.
The current plan is to move the church Tuesday, September 18th.
The church will move from its present location at Violet and Henry Streets, south to Curtis, then west to Washington Street. They expect to start moving north on Washington at about 10:00 am next Tuesday, and the trek north on the northbound lanes of Washington St. will take between 15 and 30 minutes.
It may be possible to keep one southbound lane open during the move, but that has not been fully decided.
The church will exit Washington St. at the first entrance of the HyVee parking lot and will cross the lot to Springhill St., continuing west to McNally and then north to the prepared foundation near the Museum.
