The Chillicothe Fire Department responded to two grass fires in the county over the weekend.
Sunday at about 1:40 pm, a grass fire was reported at 20645 Route Z, south of Chillicothe. The fire department arrived with the brush truck and UTV to find 10 acres burning. Dawn Fire Department was also called for assistance. 240 gallons of water was used to put out the fire. They also used foam and water to put out a fire on a large bale of hay at the edge of the timber. The fire crew was on the scene for about three and a quarter hours.
Sunday at about 4:00 pm, a small grass fire was reported at 10792 LIV 229, a few miles northwest of Chillicothe. The fire crew arrived in about 7 minutes to find approx. 1/2 acre of short grass on fire. A backpack blower was used to extinguish the fire. The homeowner was on hand and used a flat shovel to put out the fire. The homeowner stated he was burning trash and the fire got into some nearby grass. He was not able to put it out by himself so he called 911.
