Fire Fighters Spent Seven Hours On The Scene

Chillicothe Fire Fighters were on the scene of a Fire at 1119 Bryan Street for more than 7 hours.  The call came in Thursday at 6:17 and the fire crew was on the scene in 6 minutes.  They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the 2nd and 3rd story windows and overhang.  The homeowner was out of the house and had been working in the garage when they noticed the smoke.

Fire Chief Eric Reeter says they began an interior attack on the fire, but soon found the wooden floor on the first level had burned away.  This caused the department to switch to a defensive attack.

Reeter says the balloon construction of the house allowed the fire to spread from the basement to the second and third floor before they arrived.

The department used 140,000 gallons of water to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is officially undetermined, but Reeter says conversations with the homeowner and the location of the fire indicate it may have been electrical.
