Friday was the first day of the boys tennis individual state championship in Springfield at the Cooper Complex Tennis Courts. Chillicothe was represented in the singles tournament by 2022 graduate, Chace Corbin.
Corbin’s first round opponent was Brady Farnan of Father Tolton Regional Catholic who was defeated 7-2 in a tie-breaker set after the two sides split their games, 6-3, 7-6.
Then in the next round, Corbin squared off with Cole Horton of Savannah, an opponent he had seen twice earlier in the season, and dropped both games to. Corbin would fall to Horton 0-6, 0-6.
With the loss, Corbin was fighting for a chance to play on Saturday and come home with a medal. He would have to go through Charles Grumke of Lafayette County High School.
Corbin split the two games 1-6, 6-3, so it was on to a tie-breaker. That tie-breaker was tied at three separate times, but eventually, Grumke would prevail 10-7 on a net ball.
Chace Corbin’s high school career comes to a close in the individual state championship with a 22-5 record in his senior season.
