JEFFERSON CITY – Braedyn Brewer homered to tie the game in the fifth, then hit the go-ahead ground ball in the eighth, and the Mudcats edged Jefferson City 6-4 Wednesday at Vivion Field.
Chillicothe trailed twice in the game, but twice immediately responded in the following half inning to tie it. Brewer got the game-winning RBI with the bases loaded.
Steven Ricketts came in for the Mudcats and retired the final six Renegade hitters after grabbing the win in relief in Monday’s walk-off victory over Carroll.
Tanner Sears reached base four times for the Mudcats with two hard-hit singles and set up Justin Sanchez twice who had hits behind him. Seven of Chillicothe’s starters registered at least one hit.
Caleb Bergman also gave the Mudcats four shutout innings in relief after starter Bailey Quint was chased in the fourth inning.
Colton Hoelscher suffered the loss for Jefferson City and threw just eight pitches. He came on in relief in the eighth and issued back-to-back four-pitch walks to the only two batters he faced.
Chillicothe wins its first road game of the year and improves to 6-10 with the victory.
The Mudcats are back at Shaffer Park Thursday to take on the first-place Clarinda A’s. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. C.T.
