Shoot – No Shoot Simulator Part Of Police Training

A tool that puts officers in potentially dangerous situations is used by the Chillicothe Police Department and is provided by their insurance carrier.  A video simulator with many dozens of situations gives the officers an opportunity to react as if it were an actual call.  Chillicothe Police Chief Jon Maples describes how the simulator works.

Weapons available to the officer include a tazer, handgun and voice.

The simulator also shows the importance of seeing the entire situation, not just focusing on the person you may be talking with.

Maples says each of his officers is required as part of department policy to go through the simulator.

The Chillicothe Police Department recently completed qualifications at their firing range.
