The Missouri State Highway Patrol sent out a news release emphasizing the importance of including safety in your plans for Labor Day Weekend. Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, says that it is everyone’s responsibility to travel safely and observe all Missouri laws.
Some important safety measures that the Highway Patrol laid out include: choosing your route, making sure your equipment is in good condition, and wearing a seat belt or a life jacket.
Labor Day Weekend in Missouri accounted for 11 deaths, 458 injuries, and 1,124 traffic crashes in 2021. The Highway Patrol points out that this means one person was killed or injured every 10 minutes.
The public is encouraged to call the Patrol’s Emergency Report Line (800) 525-5555 if they witness criminal activity or experience an emergency.
