Lady Hornets Softball Victorious In First Conference Contest

The Lady Hornets softball team hosted Lafayette at Danner Park on Tuesday night for Chillicothe’s first MEC game. The Lady Hornets had a score to settle with the Fighting Irish after Lafayette eliminated Chillicothe in the district semifinals last season.

Lafayette led 1-0 after one inning, but Chillicothe tied the game up in the 2nd inning and then blew it wide open in the 3rd and 4th. The Lady Hornets scored 3 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to go up 8-1 just past the midway point of the game and continued their momentum through the final pitch with a dominant 11-1 win in just six innings.

The Lady Hornets had great production all up and down their lineup batting including Tatum Palmer and Charley Peniston each batting in two runs, but the main story of the night was Landry Marsh who pitched a no hitter in the victory. Marsh allowed one run all the way back in the 1st inning after walking the batter that ultimately scored, but was sensational in the circle striking out nine Fighting Irish batters and not allowing a single hit.

Chillicothe moves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the Midland Empire Conference. Chillicothe will host an 8 team tournament this Saturday at Danner Park. The Lady Hornets play Marceline at 9 AM, and with a win will play either Macon or Lawson at 2:15 PM. If the Lady Hornets advance to the championship they will play for the trophy Saturday evening at 5:45 against potentially Kirksville, South Harrison, Savannah or Holden.
