CMU Substation Failure Visible From Near Wheeling

An electrical issue at the Chillicothe Municipal Utilities Substation at Ryan and Brunswick early this (Friday) morning was visible from quite a distance.  Electric Services Superintendent Colton Reeter says there was an issue at about 3:25 am that caused the substation to trip and shut down the power.  That issue caused an electrical arc that was visible as a bright glow or flash that was reported seen from as far away as Wheeling.

Power was restored after about an hour and twenty minutes.  Repairs are being made to switches and insulators and should be complete today or early next week.

CMU also reported a brief electric outage on the west side of town Thursday evening.  The cause was a tree being cut down that hit the power line.  That outage was for seven minutes
