The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department reports a few investigations in the later part of November.
Recently deputies responded to several calls of one or more Charolais cattle out on or along Highway U. The owner and/or employee were contacted multiple times about the problem. The sheriff and prosecuting attorney have spoken about potential court action(s) and orders to eliminate the problem and stop the hazard for motorists. Incident report(s) are being submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.
Sheriff Cox says on November 25th & 26th the department was swamped with minor car wrecks, jack knifed semi, slide-offs, stranded motorists, assisting other agencies, traffic control and keeping up with the many other demands thanks to winter storm “Bruce”.
Deputies completed an investigation of alleged Failure to Make an Employee Available for Court Process Service. The deputy attempted to serve an employee at their work with an Ex Parte Order of Protection and met a less than cooperative person in the office. Problem has since been resolved.
Deputies completed an investigation of burglary and theft which took place in Wheeling on or about November 8th. The suspect was later arrested on an unrelated matter by Chillicothe Police and booked into the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail. He was allegedly in possession of the stolen cell phone from the Wheeling burglary at that time. Additional evidence suggests the suspect used the stolen cell phone to call and/or text another person prior to the arrest. The cell phone has been recovered and the report is being submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration of burglary and stealing charges.
