Gladys Irene Johnston, age 107, a lifelong resident of Breckenridge, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Braymer, Missouri.
Gladys was born on December 4, 1917 in Chula, Missouri, the daughter of Claude S. Jones Sr. and Vesta Cloe (Collier) Jones. She was the oldest of eight children. She graduated 8th grade from Minor School near Chillicothe. In 1935, she graduated from Chillicothe High School. On March 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to George R. Johnston Sr. at the home of Reverend C.E. Sharrah, northwest of Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1993.
She was a member of Breckenridge United Methodist Church. She was a housewife, helped on the farm, milking cows, gardening, canning, sewing and making quilts. Gladys was a former Avon representative, clerk and tax collector of Harrison Township, Daviess County.
Survivors include her children, George Raymond Johnston Jr (Maylene) of Breckenridge, Missouri, Earnest Richard Johnston (Jeanette) of Marshfield, Missouri, Linda Louise Shipley (Henry) of Breckenridge, Missouri; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter; one sister, Mildred Ruby Litton of Lock Springs, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant daughter Janet Irene Johnston, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law and one grandson-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
