The Chillicothe Hornets boys basketball team welcomed in Moberly Thursday. The Hornets and Spartans were both a part of the California Tournament last week but it was the first meeting between the two teams in 12 seasons.
Chillicothe was missing a couple key players, and Moberly was on the attack before the Hornets could straighten everything out, with the Spartans jumping out to an 8-0 start. Chillicothe was down by as many as 11 in the 2nd quarter before going on a 10 to nothing run of their own, nearly tying the game up. The Spartans maintained the lead the entire first half however and were ahead 28-23 at the break.
Moberly was determined to not let Jaishon White dominate offensively, the Spartans held White to 11 points on the night, well below his season average. The junior forward found several other ways to get involved with 18 rebounds and 7 blocks. With all the attention on White down low, it opened the door for Chillicothe to attack on the perimeter, hitting four 3rd quarter three pointers to take the lead over Moberly. Sol’jier Allen was the main beneficiary pacing Chillicothe with 22 points. The Hornets took a double digit lead of their own midway through the 4th quarter and prevented the Spartans from ever cutting it back to a one score game. Chillicothe closed out the win by a final score of 52-47.
The Hornets are now 11-5 this season and will travel down to Camdenton on Saturday for a game against the Lakers at 2:15 PM.
