The Chillicothe Lady Hornets hosted East Buchanan in girls basketball on Thursday night. Chillicothe entered the game 12-3 on the season, but it took some time for the team to show that ability early on.
The Lady Hornets were ahead by just four at the end of the first quarter and by 9 at halftime, locked in a defensive struggle 19-10. Chillicothe emerged for the 3rd quarter a different team, starting off with a 9-0 run, spurred by senior Liz Oliver. Oliver connected on 4 three pointers in the 3rd quarter alone, scoring 17 points in the frame, 24 for the half and 26 in the game total. Freshman Lexy Smith also provided big contributions with 12 points and 6 assists. Lydia Bonderer’s performance for Chillicothe was also noteworthy scoring 12 points and pulling down 7 rebounds.
After leading by single digits at halftime, the Lady Hornets dominated the 2nd half for a 32 point win, 61-29. Chillicothe moves to 13-3 on the season and will play in the Grain Valley Tournament next week, their first game Monday against Winnetonka.
