The Chillicothe Hornets did not play up to their standard Monday in a loss at Kirksville, but when facing adversity good teams respond, and that is what Chillicothe did against Cameron. On the Dragons Senior Night, Chillicothe made a point to silence the crowd as quickly as possible.
After trading the lead back and forth a few times in the first few minutes Chillicothe was up 11-7 through one quarter. The Hornets then lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd while stifling Cameron on the other end. The Hornets outscored the Dragons 22-6 in the period opening up a 20 point halftime lead.
The Hornets defensive intensity prevented Cameron from ever getting in an offensive flow, scoring 7 points or less every quarter. It was the 2nd time this season Chillicothe has held an opponent to under 25 points. Offensively, the Hornets established Jaishon White early, scoring a game high 13. Then when the defense collapsed Chillicothe was ready from the perimeter. Soljier Allen and Kenyen Gannan each connected on three triples, and five different Hornets scored from long range. The Hornets starters were able to rest the entirety of the 4th quarter allowing 11 different players to get into the scoring column for Chillicothe in the 60-24 win.
Chillicothe moves to 15-9 overall, 3-3 in the conference with one left to play, Thursday night at Maryville.
