Two Brush Fires Handled By Chillicothe Firefighters

Chillicothe Firefighters responded to two reports of fire Saturday afternoon.

At about 3:17, the call came in for a grass fire at 14674 LIV 242, southeast of Chillicothe.  Fire crews arrived in 6 minutes with the brush truck and a tanker.  Mutual aid was requested from Wheeling to help with the grass fire and Chula to work on burning railroad ties behind the towing company.

About 1400 gallons of water was used and the fire burned about 70 acres.  Fire crews were on the scene until 6:00 pm.

At about 4:18 pm, while still on the grass fire, Chillicothe Police reported a fire, east of the grass fire, resulting from a blown tire.  The brush truck was sent to US 36 and LIV 251 in about 9 minutes.  Less than a half acre was burning on the south side of US 36.  About 50 gallons of water was used to put out the fire in about 25 minutes.  The crews returned to the original fire.
