Leona Fern Wimmer, age 82, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.

 

Leona was born the daughter of Archie and Margaret (Long) Nibarger on July 29, 1942 in rural Livingston County.  She was a 1959 graduate of Grand Union High School, Arroyo, California. As a young lady, she married William DePuy and became a military spouse. They later divorced. On April 11, 1980 she was united in marriage to Gary Wimmer in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2009.

 

Leona was a bank teller at Citizens Bank and Trust in Chillicothe, Missouri for 20 years. She also worked for Solar Gas. Her hobbies included first and foremost, loving on her great grandbabies. She enjoyed watching and feeding the hummingbirds, orioles, and cardinals. Leona also loved tending to her gardens, both vegetable and flower. She spent time canning much of what she grew. Her flowers gave her joy as she loved the Irises, yellow roses and day lilies. Actually, she loved all things Spring as it was her favorite season. Deer hunting and mushroom hunting were activities she enjoyed participating in with her husband, Gary.

 

Survivors include three sons, Tim Wimmer and Nancy Felthauser of Chillicothe, Missouri, Raymond DePuy of Chillicothe, Missouri and Ronnie DePuy and wife, Rochelle, of Kansas City, Missouri; and two daughters, Lorrinda Suddith and husband, Jimmie, of Chillicothe, Missouri and  Angie Tipton and husband, John, of Wheeling, Missouri; 16 grandchildren,  28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gary Wimmer, two brothers and two sisters.

 

Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m, one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601.  Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhome.com.
