The Chillicothe Hornets boys tennis team competed in the Midland Empire Conference Tournament. The tournament features separate double elimination singles and doubles brackets.
In singles, Chillicothe’s Austin Covert defeated Powell from Benton in the first round 8-4. In the next round Covert lost to Janasz out of St. Pius 0-8. Then in an elimination match against Savannah’s Thompson, Covert came up short 4-8. Chillicothe’s other singles player was Hayden Chapman who began the tournament with an 0-8 against Savannah’s Smith. Chapman responded with an 8-5 win in an elimination game against Lafayette’s Aleman 8-5 before falling to Ferris from Maryville 4-8.
In the double tournament Chillicothe’s Pina and Citron lost their opening match to Maryville 2-8, then fell to Leblond 2-8 as well. Snider and Lee battled Benton’s team tight, but were beaten 4-8 before being eliminated by Pius 3-8.
Justin Janasz of St. Pius won the MEC singles tournament while the duo of Skidmore and Sheil of Maryville was first in doubles.
