Lady Hornets Earn Conference Win On Senior Night

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer team hosted Cameron on Tuesday night in their final Midland Empire Conference game of the season. Tuesday’s match also marked Senior Night to honor three Lady Hornets: Emerson Stefancik, Allie West and Alikai Walker who all played a major role in earning the victory on the night.

In the first half, Chillicothe’s defense prevented the Lady Dragons from generating hardly any chances. Cameron managed just one corner kick and zero shots on goal in the first 40 minutes as the Lady Hornets defense anchored by Stefancik in the middle made life difficult for Cameron up front. Meanwhile on the other end, after 26 minutes Chillicothe would break the deadlock on a breakaway goal from freshman Charlee Hibner. Just three minutes later Hibner doubled the lead this time off a feed from Allie West.

Chillicothe took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd half and kept the momentum going. With 24 minutes to play Hibner completed her hat trick, breaking free of the Cameron defense again. The Lady Hornets added a 4th, on an assist from Hibner to Hayden Hansen who put the ball in the back off the net after bouncing in off the far post.

For Chillicothe’s final goal on Senior Night, two of the aforementioned seniors combined for the score when West played a beautiful ball into the middle of the penalty box, Alikai Walker ran onto it and sealed the victory for Chillicothe with just under five minutes to play. Cameron would prevent Chillicothe from keeping the clean sheet with a goal by Skye Mallen in the final three minutes, but Chillicothe secured the resounding 5-1 victory.

In the win the Lady Hornets racked up 8 corner kicks and 9 shots on goal compared to just two corners and a pair of shots on goal for the Lady Dragons, one of which was saved by Chillicothe’s keeper Layla McKinnis. Chillicothe finishes the conference slate with a 3-4 record and now is 6-9 overall.
