The Trenton Girls Basketball team bounced back from their semi-final loss to win third place in the MSHSAA Class 3 Basketball Tournament. Trenton scored the first basket 15 seconds into the game and beat Licking 54-40.
Trenton led by double figures almost the entire second half. Maci Moore led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points and Ainsley Tolson had 17 points. Trenton finished with a 27-1 record and Licking was 26-5.
The only team to beat Trenton finished winning their fourth straight state championship. Strafford downed Lutheran North 61-53. Strafford’s superstar Hayley Frank had 34 points and 11 rebounds in the contest.
In Class 3 Boys finals, Vashon beat Springfield Catholic 69-59 for the championship. Charleston beat St Paul’s Lutheran of Concordia for Third Place 71-58.
The finals are set for Class 1 and Class 2. In Class 1 boys, Jefferson beat Linn County 62-49 to advance to the championship game. Linn County was led by Jase White with 18, Chadley Waltz with 12 and Michael O’Kane with 11 points. Waltz also had 17 rebounds.
Linn County trailed 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.
In the other boys Class 1 game Dora improved to 30-1 with an 80-71 overtime win over St Elizabeth, which drops to 23-5.
In Class 1 Girls Walnut Grove handed Lakeland their first loss of the season 70-40. Stanberry edged Community 47-40 to advance to the title game.
Class 2 Boys Oran improved to 30-1 with a 58-40 win over Van-Far and will meet Greenwood at 27-3, which beat Plattsburg 61-54.
Class 2 Girls Thayer advanced to the title game with a 48-43 win over Clopton. Greenwood downed Plattsburg 61-54 in the other semi-final game.
